The car driver and team owner MBM Motorsports - training in NASCAR - Derek White was arrested in Kahnawake on Wednesday morning as part of a major police operation to an international network of tobacco smuggling, trafficking narcotics and money laundering.
An arrest warrant had been issued against Mr White, who lives on the Mohawk reserve in connection with the offenses for the benefit of a criminal organization, conspiracy to fraud and fraud at the provincial and federal governments.
The 45 year old man faces seven charges.
The native of Kahnawake became July 13, 2015 the first conductor of First Nations to play a round of the Sprint Cup, the main category of NASCAR. His last appearance in the circuit goes back to March 5, at the Boyd Gaming 300 presented in Las Vegas. He had taken the 36th of the race.
Derek White was especially known as a pilot in North Carolina.
"The tobacco was purchased in North Carolina, illegally imported to Canada and sold Kahnasatake, said Daniel Thibaudeau Wednesday agent.
Sixty individuals linked to criminal biker and Aboriginal organized crime were arrested Wednesday as part of the police operation in the regions of Montreal, the Laurentians, Lanaudiere, Monteregie and on the Kahnawake and six Nations in Ontario.
This deployment was to dismantle an international network of tobacco smuggling, drug trafficking and money laundering.
